Task 3: Partitioning of Hard Disk Drive in Windows 98 Procedures: Turn on computer. Press Del or F2 key to enter CMOS/BIOS Setup and check for the BOOT Sequence (set the CDROM as the First Boot Device). Press F10 to save changes. Insert Windows 98 bootable CD in the CD drive. (Restart if necessary, press CTLR-ALT-DEL) Upon restarting, it will prompt you and let you choose either; (1) Boot from Hard Disk (2) Boot from CD-ROM Choose # 2, Boot from CD-ROM (press enter) You are to choose either; (1) Start windows 98 setup from CD-ROM (2) Start Computer with CD-ROM Support (3) Start Computer without CD-ROM Support · Choose # 2, then press enter It will now prompt you in drive A: In A:, type Fdisk, then press enter. Press Y then enter, to enable large disk support and continue in Fdisk option. Under Fdisk Option, you have 4 choices; (4) Create Partition (5) Set Active Partition (6) Delete Partition (7) Display Partition Information Choose # 4, to view if there are any existing partition/s in the hard disk you’re working with. Press Y to view any existing Logical Drive. If the hard disk drive is already partitioned, proceed with deleting partition. Press Esc to go back to Fdisk Option. Choose (3), to delete partition. (Delete all the existing partition/s) In Deleting Partition: Delete first the NON-DOS Partition (ex NTFS), if any Then the Logical DOS Drive(s) Then Extended DOS Partition Lastly, delete Primary Partition to avoid conflicts Deleting Logical DOS Drive 1. Under Deleting Partition, choose #3 then press ‘Enter’, to delete logical drive 2. Type the letter of the drive(s) you want to delete. (one drive letter at a time) ex.: Drive D: - just type D then press ‘Enter’) 3. Then, type the Volume Label of the drive, if any. 4. Press ‘Y’ button then ‘Enter’ to proceed deleting your drive(s). 5. Press ‘Esc’ to go back at Fdisk Options to continue deleting. Deleting Extended DOS Partition 1. After deleting Logical DOS Drive(s). At Fdisk Options, choose #3 then press ‘Enter’. 2. At Delete Partition Option, choose #2 then ‘Enter’ to select Delete Extended DOS Partition. 3. Press ‘Y’ then ‘Enter’ to continue deleting. 4. Press ‘Esc’ to go back at Fdisk Options and continue deleting. Deleting Primary DOS Partition At Fdisk Options, choose #3 then press ‘Enter’. At Delete Partition Option, choose #1 then press ‘Enter’ to select Deleting Primary DOS Partition. Press the number of the primary partition you want to delete then press Enter. (ex.: Drive C:1 – just press #1 then press ‘Enter’) Type the Volume Label (if any) Press ‘Y’ then press ‘Enter’. Press ‘Esc’ until it goes back to Fdisk Option Under Fdisk Option, Choose (1), to create partition In Creating Partition: Create first the Primary Partition Then, Create Extended Partition Lastly, Create Logical Drive/s Creating Primary Partition 1. Under Create Partition Options, choose (1) to create primary partition. 2. Wait until it reaches 100%. Then, press N to allocate space/capacity to another partition. Wait again until it reaches 100%. 3. Type 50% then press enter, if you wanted to allocate the 50% of the hard disk capacity to your primary partition. (Allocation of hard disk capacity depends on the capacity you want). 4. Press ESC to return to FDISK Option. Ø Creating Extended Partition and Logical Drive/s 1. Under FDISK Option, press (1) to create partition. 2. Under Create Partition Option, press (2) to create Extended Partition. Wait until it reaches 100%. 3. Then, type 50% to allocate the remaining hard disk capacity. Then press ENTER. 4. Press ESC and it will continue creating Logical Drive/s. Wait until it reaches 100%. 5. Type 100% to allocate capacity to 1 Logical Drive. Then press ENTER. (Allocation of Logical Drive/s capacity depends on the desired number of partitions). 6. Press ESC and go back to FDISK Option. 7. Choose (4) to display created partition. 8. Press ESC and save the newly created partition by pressing CTLR-ALT-DEL. 9. The computer now will restart. Task 4: Formatting of Hard Disk Drive in Windows 98. Procedures: After the computer restarted from creating partition, with the windows 98 CD still inserted inside the CD-ROM drive, it will boot again from the CD-ROM. Choose (2), Boot from CD-ROM. Then press ENTER. Choose (2), Start Computer with CD-ROM support. Then press ENTER. It will prompt you in drive A: In prompt A:, type the letter of the CD-ROM drive. ex: A:> type E: (press enter) Note: If you have two partitions, C: and D: are the letters for the hard disk drive. Next letter to it will be automatically assigned for the CD-ROM drive. Under the CD-ROM drive or in drive E: type DIR to view files and directories under E: (look for WIN98 directory) ex: E:> type DIR (press enter) Then, enter the WIN98 directory under E: ex: E:> type cd win98 (press enter) It will prompt you in E:\win98:> then proceed now with formatting drive C:, where we will be setting up the windows 98 operating system later. ex: E:\win98:>format C: (press enter) Press Y to continue formatting. Then wait until it reaches 100%. (formatting completed) You will be asked for a Volume Label. You may type your name or any other name then press ENTER. You may also ignore it by pressing ENTER to continue. If you still have other drives to format, you may proceed with formatting by following the steps in formatting drive C: or you may wish to format it later after the installation of operating system. You can now proceed with operating system (win98) installation
